This little tutorial to create a working traffic light will help teach you the basics of the Arduino software and the Engduino. If you can switch an LED on you can do anything (with practice).

The MyFirstEngduino.ino that you will modify. Right-click the link and Save-As on your desktop (or just copy and paste the code into your own Sketch window). Open from within the Arduino IDE and you're all set!. (See here for information on opening files)

Try and guess what your friend did while you weren't looking by making them hold an the engduino accelerometer and looking at the data afterwards.  See how engineers analyse real world data to help them make decisions.
